We represent talent as an autonomous boutique law firm within a full-service law firm. This allows us to offer clients personal service while still bringing to bear the full panoply of knowledge of all our entertainment-related departments. While many of our clients are Academy, Emmy and Grammy award-winners well-known in the industry, RMS also values and represents new talent with potential - the critical next generation in the performing arts. In negotiating agreements for our clients for the acquisition of rights or the rendition of services we work very closely with them. We become involved in many aspects of their professional lives and give professional advice in other areas when desired. RMS provides counseling on projects and packaging or regarding the selection of other key representatives. Our entertainment attorneys act as liaisons with RMS attorneys who specialize in other areas such as litigation, taxation, estate planning, family law or corporate counseling. Independent Production/Distribution Companies We represent and perform all production and distribution related legal services for the independent production/ distribution companies which develop and produce projects for television, theater or location-based entertainment. We counsel them regarding the acquisition of literary properties and we negotiate agreements for them in connection with services, financing, production and distribution. Over its four-decade history, RMS has been associated with numerous successful entertainment projects. Clearance of Literary Material We represent issuers of errors and omissions insurance in the entertainment industry. As a result, RMS attorneys have unique and unparalleled expertise in the review and clearance of screenplays and teleplays. We assess the risk of potential claims such as libel, copyright infringement, or invasion of privacy, and render coverage opinions on claims under the entertainment-related errors and omissions insurance policies. Members of RMS have written and spoken extensively to industry groups. Our reputation is worldwide. We represent not only music publishers, record company and labels, and concert promoters, but established song- writers, composers and music supervisors - and some of the top alternative recording artists, as well. Our involvement with special projects are as diverse as the development of amphitheaters, acquisition of record companies and music catalogues, and the negotiation of live music concerts for television specials. We represent artists in the negotiation of recording contracts, publishing agreements and public appearance agreements. We help our clients merchandise and license some of the most visible and successful properties in the world. We help clients create and implement merchandising programs from start to finish; we identify and protect licensable elements of a property and identify potential licensees. We also draft and negotiate license agreements and create and administer effective anti-piracy policing programs. Since 1981, we have represented completion guarantors. In this capacity, we review arrangements for financing, production and distribution of motion picture and television projects. We work with the world's foremost financiers and distributors of motion picture and television products. Entertainment and intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution are areas to which RMS attorneys bring particular expertise. We have extensive experience in entertainment-related transaction such as complex issues of copyright, accounting, trademark, right of publicity, and breach of contract. Among the cases we have litigated are infringement actions arising out of new technology in all media. We also represent individuals and the print and broadcast media in defamation and invasion of privacy cases.
